a vulva is a vulva
as part of the 16 days against violence against women and girls, i was invited by the women's forum salzkammergut to a solo exhibition from december 2020 to march 2021 in ebensee, austria. 220 vulva statues adorned not only the premises of the women's forum during this period, but also the public space of the upper austrian city in a very visible showcase. kick-off of the event was a live-streamed artist talk with managing director birgit hofstätter. at the end of may, the vulva casting workshop, postponed due to covid-19, was finally made up for on site.
the reactions of local residents to the centrally located showcase were mixed, as the photos of the graffitied window make clear. the exhibition also made it into the local carnival cabaret program though.

last but not least, the exhibition was completed by a crowdfunding campaign looking to fund the distribution of educational posters with the photographed vulva casts to all interested gynecologists in upper austria.
the exhibition was discussed in the zoom-talk by Sigrid Ecker from KUPFzeitung for the issue about "lust" with birgit hofstätter and artist alice erik moe, where post-porn, drag and the capitalization of sexuality were also discussed.
